Kirsten, Stylist
If you peek in the window as you walk by our shop on the beach side, you'll probably see Kirsten spoiling one of our doggie clients. We interviewed Kirsten so you can get to know her better.
Which of your past work experiences will you be drawing on in this position?
I have always had a deep love for animals and knew I wanted to have a profession that would let me interact with animals. Immediately after high school, I enrolled in a dog styling program. Once I graduated, I started working as a stylist, spending time with all kinds of dogs on a daily basis.
What background do you have working with pets or pet owners?
In addition to being a stylist, I have two dogs of my own. One of my dogs, Calvin, became very ill and to help him, I started doing a lot of research on nutrition and holistic healing. I also studied aromatherapy and reiki and how to use those therapies to help in the healing process. Learning to help my own pet opened a whole new path for me. I now incorporate these healing aspects when I’m styling dogs and I work with people as well.
Tell us about your hobbies.
I spend a lot of time with my dogs. Calvin, now eleven years old, is a Bullmastiff and Maggie is an English Setter. Calvin is slow and laid-back while Maggie is always “go-go-go!” The balance is amazing! We go hiking and on trips to the park and down to the beach. I also do some belly dancing! I started dancing for the exercise but it’s so fun. I love it!
What are you enjoying as part of the Anything Canine team?
It’s super fun working here. I started in October and I’ve met a lot of great people and great dogs. I’m incorporating more therapeutic treatments into my styling routine to help the animals I work with feel their best and that’s been really well-received.
For fun, if you were to temporarily become a dog, like in the Disney movie “The Shaggy D.A.,” which breed would you prefer to be and why?
That’s a tough question! I guess I’d be a mixed breed, a little bit of each of my own dogs. I’d like to be calm and easy-going like my Bullmastiff but also full of fun and happiness like my English Setter. That would be the perfect balance!
