Every month one of our two display windows will feature an artist whose work relates to dogs and dog owners. For the month of June, the artist we are showcasing is Carolyn Johnson.
Johnson works with art reproduction techniques to provide high quality photographic images. Called Giclée (zhee-CLAY) prints, the image is printed directly onto canvas, sealed with a transparent gloss coating that protects against humidity and UV rays, and stretched like a traditional canvas painting. The resulting piece boasts texture and color far beyond an ordinary paper copy.
While many painters choose to create reproductions of their original work using this process, a family photo can also take on the patina of fine art when printed as a Giclée. Johnson is often asked to create a canvas using the photographic portrait of the family pet.
On the lighter side of art, Johnson will also combine the family pet portrait with a famous painting. For instance, you can commission an impressive canvas of your dog Scruffy posing as Napoleon to hang above the mantelpiece!
Another option is to customize a white board using your pet’s photograph. Scribble inspirational poetry, love notes or your shopping list on a quality reproduction of a favorite photo and simply wipe off when you have something new to say.
Stop by our boutique during June to see examples of Johnson’s work. Our team is happy to help you commission a work of art featuring your own pet. Ask us!
